🔹 Cycling through fandoms

So, we had sort of cycled around to Metal Gear after needing a break from writing so much Urusei Yatsura. Unfortunately, a long stay in MGS fandom wasn’t to be, for a variety of factors.

To be fair, the hostile anon message about our choice of ships was NOT among those factors. Mostly it was how upset that Hazel (🔫🦢) got that absolutely no one read her fic due to it being oc X canon. So we’re moving on for a while while she cools off. There were also some kin reasons for the shift but I don’t care to discuss them here.

That said, we already had intended March to be when we tackled Ace Attorney and that’s off to a great start. I have a lovely multishipping/polyshipping chart that I’ve started work on that is sure to piss off many people, and we’ve already started writing drabbles as a warm up.

We’re playing the Apollo Justice trilogy (finally!!) and rewatching the Miles Edgeworth games.

Here’s a preview of the shipping chart.

📸 Fresh naan

Made fresh naan for with dinner tonight (will be butter chicken).

I make my naan in a cast iron skillet. It doesn’t take long, just a few minutes to knead the dough, then let it rise, then it only takes 2 minutes to cook each piece.

Here’s the recipe that I use

▢ 1 teaspoon honey
▢ 1/2 cup warm water
▢ 1/4 oz. (10g) active dry yeast ((2 1/4 teaspoons) )
▢ 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
▢ 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
▢ 1/2 teaspoon salt
▢ 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
▢ some more oil (for greasing the skillet)
▢ some butter (for rubbing on the finished naan)

  1. Combine warm water and honey in a large bowl. Then add the yeast. Wait 5 minutes for the yeast to activate.
  2. Add the flour, yogurt, salt and 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil. Combine with a soft spatula until the dough starts to come together, then with your hands.
  3. Knead by hand for approximately five minutes, until the dough is uniform and a little bit shiny.
  4. Grease large bowl (I use the same bowl that I made the dough in) and return dough to greased bowl. Cover, and put in a warm place.
  5. Allow dough to rise until doubled in size, usually about an hour and a half.
  6. Separate risen dough into 8 pieces and roll them into balls.
  7. On a lightly greased surface, take a dough ball and squish down with your palm. Gently squish the ball with your palm and fingers until it forms into a small disc, about the thickness of a coin.
  8. Heat your cast iron skillet to medium-high. (Don’t forget to cover your skillet’s handle with a cloth to remind you that it is hot!)
  9. When your skillet is hot, place the first naan into the pan and wait for it to bubble. If you have the temperature right, you will have just enough time while it’s cooking to turn the next dough ball into a disc.
  10. When your naan starts to bubble, flip it in the pan. Let it cook on the other side for about 30 seconds to a minute.
  11. Place the cooked naan on a plate, and rub butter on the naan.
  12. Put the next disc of dough on the skillet, and form the next dough ball into a disc.
  13. Repeat process until all naan is cooked and buttered.

🔹 So you’re stuck trying to solve a writing problem.

Maybe you’re trying to figure out what comes next in a scene. Maybe you’re trying to work out how a conversation should flow. Maybe you’re just trying to come up with an idea for something to write at all.

👉 Do something that engages your hands while leaving your mind free to wander.

🧽Clean something.

🧽 Do the dishes.

🧽 Take a shower or a bath.

🧽 Vacuum.

🧽 Dust. (wear a mask when you dust, its much nicer)

🚫 Don’t clean something that requires brainpower such as doing anything involving organizing.

🧶 Do a craft!

🧶Do fiber arts.

🧶Do a paint by numbers or a coloring book

🧶Play with modeling clay or play-doh.

🧶Do a puzzle.

🚫 Don’t engage in a craft that requires brainpower such as sketching something new, or picking out a new pattern.

👍 Do listen to music, but nothing too distracting. Music without lyrics or music that you’re very familiar with is perfect.

🚫 Don’t listen to a podcast, audiobook, or video in the background!

👉 The key is to get yourself immersed in an activity where you are busy enough not to get distracted but your brain is free to think about other things– and come up with the solution for your story!

🔹Maddening (tumblr x-post)

I think the thing that we hate most about social media is that every time a new tragedy happens, we have to update our filters to block it out, or we will be bombarded by waves of it, multiple times a day, for weeks on end when we are just trying to enjoy our fun fandom leisure time.

We don’t want to be bombarded by terrible news and tragedy porn every time we open our feed. How do people live like this? No wonder everyone is so fucking depressed nowdays. we had to LEAVE twitter entirely years ago because there was no way to block the latest world tragedy from appearing on the sidebar of the site.

We have serious anxiety. We have CPTSD. We cannot be constantly bombarded with reminders of how terrible and cruel the world is with absolutely no way for us to take action against it.

It’s maddening.

No listen to me, it is literally maddening.

It is driving you mad. Existing in a world where your fun leisure time activity is constantly broken into with reminders about the horrible tragedies in the world and how you are somehow personally responsible if you don’t make other people aware of what is happening is literally driving you mad.

Listen to me.

You need spaces that are comfortable for you.

You need spaces that are calm.

You need a place to participate in leisure time activities that is not constantly bombarded by horror.

We cannot all continue like this.
